The Thinking Woodsman Podcast – Episode 3

If the April podcast were a bratwurst, it would promptly rupture its juicy meat goodness after being placed on the searing grill of your podcast feed. It’s that stuffed.

The show starts out with an homage to Eric Church’s new hit Mr. Misunderstood and draws a parallel between the song and my growing up in the outdoors.

Next, since it’s that time of year, I interview an avid morel hunter for tips and tricks on how to load your mesh baggies to the brim, but don’t expect a whole lot. He’s a morel hunter and the interview gets awkward quickly. More importantly though, I report on shocking new health concerns associated with handling and ingesting morels. You’ll definitely want to share  this show with anyone who’s thinking about starting to hunt the fungus.

Then we chat with TV hunting celebrity Taylor Drury from Drury Outdoors and hear her perspectives on life in the spotlight and how she manages a career, social life and school. We also discuss fashion, so you can’t say the show doesn’t have range.

Darrel & Tim

Next, we stop in for a visit with Darrell Stiennen at Select Archery for a chat on how to navigate your local archery shop’s used bow rack. If you’re considering selling your rig, he also offers pointers to get the most out of your trade-in.

In the “What Were They Thinking?” segment, you’ll hear direct quotes from a Wisconsin based radical anti-hunter who is actively working to silence your voice and take away your hunting rights. Pay attention gang; she’s already had some success and unless we engage threats like this, our outdoors heritage will erode for future generations. Listen to learn what you can do to foil her plans.

The word is out about a new relationship The Thinking Woodsman has with a pillar in the outdoor media industry. Hear the announcement from a special guest in the “What’s Cooking?” segment. I also highlight these fine articles for your seasonal reading pleasure:

Don’t Call it Shed Hunting

The First Rule of Morel Hunting

The Psychology of Blisters

Capture

Then, from the floor of the Topeka Monster Buck Classic, an interview with Jake Reese, founder of a growing Christian network for outdoorsmen known as The Ridgemen. It’s an interesting concept and worth your time to check out…if you’re a dude. Sorry ladies.

Finally in the “Will It Kill It?” segment, I pit a G5 small game head against three cans of Dr. Pepper lined up in a row. Enjoy listening to the effervescent destruction!
