The locally sourced, organic protein movement is bringing deer hunting back into the mainstream.
People are realizing the virtues that hunters have been touting all along; that venison is unrivaled in its health benefits. By consuming a deer, you’re eating an animal that lived its life the way it was designed. It didn’t contribute to a high-density cattle lot somewhere. Deer meat is about as “green” as a protein can get.
The next step in this reawakening has been a trend called “nose-to-tail eating” (NTE). There’s nothing new under the sun and NTE is no exception. NTE devotees don’t just utilize muscle tissue from deer, but they also consume organs.
Instead of burying a gut pile, these individuals prize these parts as delicacies for their table…but what if there was yet another step in utilizing a deer’s remains for consumption?
What if NTE incorporated the exterior of the deer?
I think it’s finally time we ask ourselves the question: Should you eat deer hair?
While opinions may vary on removal techniques and preparation methods, ultimately the answer is a resounding “No.”
Deer hair is completely indigestible, would taste like dirt and ticks, and would likely cause the consumer to accidentally inhale fibers into their lungs.
Don’t do it. Under no circumstance should you eat deer hair…ever. You’ll be a dumb idiot if you do.
